9/22/08 Sun. There are many men who lived and died in battle that is why the US is a great country and I as a veteran am proud of that.

Great story. More amazing that he was a POW in WWII as a civilian in the Philippines. Slave Labor camp, etc. Self-made man. True patriot.

Frank Buckles
Corporal, USA
Mr. Buckles, 106 years old at the time of his interview, and one of three known surviving Americans left who served his country during WWI, tells his piece of history. He recalls proudly how when he went to France as an ambulance driver, "we were inexperienced, but we were welcome."
